The Oadby and Wigston Scout and Guide Band is open to all members of either Association from the age of 7 upwards. The band also welcomes new players who are not members of the Associations. Beginners through to accomplished players and return players are welcome. Q: When and where do you practice?
A: All sections of the band meet weekly on a Friday evening, the training band currently meets at 6.30pm - 7.00pm followed by the main band at 7.00pm - 9.00pm at the 68th Leicester Scout Hut, (address on our contact us page) . Other one-off practices are sometimes arranged, usually at weekends, during the course of the year and again these are advised in advance.
Q: I can’t march or read music. Can I still join?
A: No problem, join our training band and you will be helped with music and drill by our friendly and experienced Instructors.
Q: I don’t have an instrument. Can I still join?
A: The band has a selection of instruments that can be loaned out to band members, should you wish to loan an instrument, you will be asked to pay a returnable fee and complete a loan agreement for the instrument.
Q: How old do I have to be to join?
A: You are able to join if you are 7 years or older, but we accept people of all ages that can play an instrument and would still like to get involved.
Q: I used to play an instrument but haven't played for years, can I come along?
A: Absolutely, we accept members of all abilities
Q: Can I join if I don’t live in the area?
A: Yes of course, as long as you can attend our practices, attend our gigs when requested and wear our uniform.
Q: I’m not in the Scouts or Guides, will you let me join?
A: Yes, please come down and speak to us or contact us for more details.
Q: Do I have to buy a uniform?
A: No, The majority of the uniform is owned by the band and these items are issued on loan for band related events only. In addition to these we have a Leicestershire Scout and Guide Bands purple polo shirt for mass events. The only thing we ask you to provide is black socks, shoes and black trousers.
